All of the appointments we schedule throughout pregnancy and postpartum are an hour long. We do this so we can really check in with mom and baby and give them the support and care they deserve.

This baby is being born inside of it's water bag AKA "en caul" because the water bag never broke. The water bag can rupture naturally on it's own but it is sometimes broken on purpose during labor. We prefer to not interfere with the mother and baby's birthing process and let the water bag stay intact as long as possible.

Listening to baby's heart beat is always one of the best parts of prenatal appointments. We use the fetoscope in place of the doppler from the second trimester onward.

We like to leave the umbilical cord intact for at least 2 hours after birth. We believe delayed cord clamping is better for the baby by improving its blood and stem cell counts.

These young parents are absolutely amazing and so inspiring.
We midwives love holding babies to give parents a break but we prefer to see babies feeling secure in their parent's arms.
Babies skin coloring can be pale, blue, purple, and/or pink at birth. As they take their first breaths their color will change.
We like to have mom in bed with baby for as long as possible in the first few weeks postpartum to ensure that mom's body can recover fully. It can be a struggle to get rest with older siblings to take care of though, that's why it's good to have extra support on hand to help out.
